Great article.

It remains mind-boggling to me that "no one knows" what Liftopia did with the money. I had assumed that, by now, there would have been a couple of exposé-style articles showing the mismanagement and excess of Liftopia execs, how all the money went to "blow and hookers" or something. Instead, still nothing. Amazing.

No, some of the money did indeed go to blow and hookers. Unfortunately, the rest of the money was just wasted.

In all seriousness, these guys are crooks. I really hope the resorts get their money back and I really hope this new entity fails. I am not sure if that combination is a possible outcome.

Thanks for writing this.

While it is generally agreed that Liftopia does have the best "load management" technology, leveraging that (likely temporary) fact in this way is lowlife behavior.

We sincerely hope that there is a big price to pay for these actions.

Couldn't agree more. Given that Liftopia stiffed operators like Aspen and Squaw/Alpine who are both well-known and well-respected through what remains a pretty small industry community, it's difficult for me to imagine their spawn Catalate will get much traction until there is resolution on the outstanding claims.

Greed and human nature being what they are, I'm prepared to be disappointed, but here's hoping that these charlatans are held accountable.
