I am 100% supportive of changing the name, but Palisades Tahoe is just awful. First, Palisades is a super generic name for a mountain ... you pointed out in your article many other uses of Palisades, but left out my favorite - the Palisades of New York and New Jersey which are most noteworthy for a scenic, but chronically jammed highway and a dead amusement park that dominated local airwaves with ads in the 1970s and 80s. Second, the actual dictionary definition of Palisades is man-made structures used to protect - "a fence of wooden stakes or iron railings fixed in the ground, forming an enclosure or defense." The irony here is that these structures were used by early European colonists to keep indigenous people out of their communities, including at places as famous as Plymouth, MA and Jamestown, VA! (In fairness, they were also used by Indigenous tribes against each other). It's hard to get these things right, but Palisades is so generic and its plain meaning is so contrary to what they were trying to do, that I'm just, well, disappointed.

Once again Stuart nails it. Thank you. Especially for the "woke" explainer, which, as anyone who has looked at social media in the last 24 hours can see, is very much needed as a sticky at the top of every internet thread on this topic.

Even though I am on the Alpine Meadows mailing list, nobody from the Dee-COO office asked me. I've skied the Kirkwood Palisades often, so as far as I'm concerned, that name has already been adopted. What about a fitting name like Snowsquall. Or, OMG, or how about Alpen Calderas since L.Tahoe is a collapsed strato volcano, not a valley; or Brave USA. Maybe the slur word Brave is a slap in the face to today's typical sensitive "man" "say". RONSTADT could be fitting, as would their new theme song should be "Poor, p..... pitiful me". Sounds like to me COO Bo-Dee & company has lost her sheep flock with this "insider" rename maneuver. Maybe a 4 letter nickname will be assigned by the mass, like WOOD. Or maybe Squally. I got it, "Er-SA."

Well, I think it's genius PR! They cancelled themselves before the cancel culture mob could cancel them! If they waited a bit longer, who knew what Twitter and celebrity cancelling awaited them!

Jokes aside I think it's a good change. And the timing of unifying both areas under a singular name is also perfect, with the long awaited construction of that Base to Base gondola. It would definitely be odd if the two areas were still separated, and sharing one name and logo.

Is it just me, or does the name sound better when reversed? Instead of Palisades Tahoe, how about Tahoe Palisades? I suppose I could take my outrage to social media.
