How Schmitz bought his first ski area at 22 and turned three failing businesses into one successful company.
He's totally right about the rope tows: they're by far the best feature of Little Switzerland and The Rock. They move as fast as a high speed quad, they're fun, they're quick to load and unload. I wish every terrain park had a tow to quickly knock out the laps and session a feature.
Well done! I enjoyed the interview and am pleased you took time to recognize Rick’s significant efforts and leadership in the ski, snowboard, and tubing arenas. Rick’s candor, passion, and vision came through clearly in the interview. I have worked as part of Rick’s team for 10+ years at Nordic as a ski instructor and can attest to the great work he and the managers have done to grow the Nordic team, customer base, and the overall facility!
Awesome interview! Makes you want to go out and buy a ski area! You've interviewed a lot people, most of who work extremely hard and wear many hats. But the most exciting ones are like this, people of action, making something out of nothing, the sky's the limit. All while be humble enough to let his people work autonomously and share in the success, not run the place top down.
