Best interview since Lonnie Glieberman from Bohemia. What fun listening to a great business man / owner talk about his resort and cooperative relationship with the local town, Rossland. Maybe I can convince my son to ski it with me this year.

If you're a Usonian whose curiosity is piqued by this and the whole Powder Highway experience, I suggest flying to Spokane and stopping at Schweitzer before crossing the border.

RED and Schweitzer have been competing for my affections for more than half a decade. They both have a lot to offer, and are similar in many ways.

Howard and his team are doing an amazing job of embracing their past while improving on it - see the lockers and the Paradise redo. Schweitzer... seems to embrace benign neglect; witness the state of the Outback, the base of Stella, and the current day lodge.

Schweitzer *is* emphasizing investment in lifts and the village (and a new day lodge area). There is slope side real estate and more coming ... at a price (starting about double per sqft of what Red is building).

One of the best things about RED is that it really is an extension of Rossland. I wish that were as true about Schweitzer and Sandpoint.
