I visited Palisades Tahoe for the first time last spring and MAN did my friend and I enjoy the Base to Base Gondola!

We'd start the first half of our days at the Alpine Meadows side. With no village on this side, the walk from my SUV to the lodge and slopes was nice and short. We'd ski for a few hours until things warmed up and the snow softened into that nice spring California slush. We'd make the short walk back to my SUV, eat the lunch we'd packed because ski resort food is criminally expensive, then we'd hop on the Base to Base Gondola and get off at the top of KT-22, shortening the ride and getting a great run in! Then we'd shred the Olympic Valley side now that the afternoon sun had softened everything up. Then at the end of the day, we'd hop back in the Base to Base Gondola and enjoy a relaxing ride back to Alpine Meadows. The Base to Base Gondola is very nice too, smooth and quiet with roomy cabins and plush seats.

I am enjoying the Tahoe area podcasts. It would be great to get someone involved with Sierra-at-Tahoe on the podcast to talk about how their first season open since the fire went.

I find it interesting that she mentioned a trend of lifts being built lower to the ground, because the trend has been to build lifts with fewer towers (which saves costs and reduces the environmental footprint) usually resulting in higher towers. Tecumseh Express at Waterville Valley is a dramatic example of a new lift being much higher than the old lift and it went from 25 to 13 towers. I think lifts with wider chairs (i.e. six packs) and gondola cabins give the illusion of being lower to the ground than doubles, but in fact the opposite may be true. Check the new Red Dog pictures on Liftblog because it looks like one high lift early on in the line. Then imagine it with double chairs and think about how much higher it would feel.

Nice conversation overall!

This is an excellent podcast. I really enjoyed Dee's holistic approach to running an extraordinary resort. The depth of knowledge she has regarding the operation is incredible and she has a masterful ability to communicate complex topics in a way that is understandable to those of us who don't know the minute details of the challenges she is facing. I really felt like Dee is a an executive who understands that the purpose of a business is to provide value to all involved, in the traditional sense of stakeholders. Thank you both.
