A real pleasure to be sitting here in my law office reading Slopes while eating lunch after skiing earlier this week at Stratton and of Mount Snow (and heading for Loon and Bretton Woods early next week). You're right about that sensation: "You know it will happen but it’s never not surprising when it does."
I've had a place at Loon for more than 30 years and although "familiarity breeds contempt," (a bit vanilla, over groomed and too many bros straight-lining the hill) it is quite the operation, easy to get around (20,000+ vert without even trying) and the spectacular views up top of Cannon, the Franconia and Presidential ranges are among the very best in New England skiing. Thanks especially for that video of the run down to Camp III; I've done it countless times and it was almost as good as being there.
I have to say that every time I talk to Brian the GM, he mentions stepping up the glades game at Loon. For pure smooth vert it is a very hard place to top.
Hey there Stuart!! Its fellow michigander Todd here. Hey , Im doing a month long tour across new england starting in a couple weeks thanks largely to all the great articles, info and stats you're articles have provided the past few years!!! I'm definitely looking forward to meeting up with you if possible. That would be epic and a highlight to meet you. Until then, keep on rocking and shredding!!!

Great writing - thank you. But, folks who ski at Lutsen, Spirit Mountain, and a few places in da UP are laughing at "great views of the big lake."
Thanks for sharing the love Stuart. (And great to ski with you yesterday at Plattekill.)
FWIW I can see understand why you and others are baffled by my approach. But I'm not baffled by you. You actually make sense.
Love reading these recaps of skiing the hills of NY!
Glad we made some turns, Brother. More soon!
Can’t tell you how sad I am to have missed you at Loon. It was a great early season day!
